The straight double-edged blade of this sword does not classify it as a khāṅḍā because it does not have a basket hilt. It is categorised, instead, as a patissā. The hilt is of a typical North Indian form with traces of what appear to be silver.
The double-edged blade is considered to be of great significance. Although difficult to handle, it proves to be very efficient in deft hands. It was therefore, considered a status symbol. Even though this example is not of a particularly high quality, its owner would still have commanded some authority in his sub-community.
